What to consider when choosing a service provider for threat detection

By Socura

If your security team is struggling to keep pace with the demands of cyber threat detection, entrusting a managed service provider to bolster your capabilities and ease the load is an easy decision. However, not all providers are created equal. This makes it essential to select a partner carefully.

Traditional security service providers that can manage your choice of detection tools might seem like a good option to strengthen your security.  The trouble is that they often lack the full range of expertise to keep you safe – they’ll tell you there’s a problem but provide little support to help you respond quickly.

To minimise cyber risk, early detection of attacks is critical, but many managed services providers lack the context required to quickly differentiate between regular and malicious events at scale. As a result, they are simply too slow and tend to ‘throw alerts over the wall’ – adding little value to alerts generated by security controls. Most MSSPs also charge for ongoing service improvements such as detection engineering.

Introducing Managed Detection and Response

If the limitations of service providers sound familiar, then now is the time to consider Managed Detection and Response (MDR) – a more proactive type of service that addresses the many shortcomings of traditional offerings.

MDR provides the complete capability –  intelligence, expertise and tools – needed to achieve broad threat visibility across your networks, endpoints and clouds. This context means that incidents can be triaged as cases rather than individual events.

Using the latest EDR and SOAR technologies, MDR providers also supply the expertise needed to respond to attacks on your behalf. Response actions, such as isolation of endpoints, suspension of user accounts and quarantining malicious files, are commonly automated – saving precious time and manual effort.

High quality MDR services also include proactive threat hunting to identify indicators of compromise and ensure that security tools are constantly tuned to identify the latest adversary behaviours.

Socura for MDR

At Socura, we believe a managed security service should ease the load, not add to it. It’s why we’ve designed our MDR service to provide high-quality, actionable outcomes. When you receive notification of an incident from us, you can be confident that it has been fully investigated and triaged by our security operations experts to validate to a high degree that it is genuine.  You’ll also know that appropriate action, where possible, has been taken to limit any potential impact. 96% of the incidents we detect are handled without the need for us to notify our customers.

Unlike other providers, Socura doesn’t make promises we can’t keep. We also won’t surprise you with hidden charges for ongoing service improvements.
